K-pop idol group and Grammy nominee BTS’ “Butter” has topped the Billboard Hot 100 for nine weeks and set a new 2021 record on the chart.

According to Billboard, “Butter” is No. 1 on Hot 100 on the Aug. 7-dated chart, its ninth week at No. 1 since it debuted on top last June 5.

Its reign on the Hot 100 was cut when BTS’ own song “Permission to Dance” debuted at No. 1 on the July 24 chart but the song came back to the top last week.

“Butter” now surpassed the record of Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drivers License,” which spent eight weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 from January to March this year, according to Billboard.

The Billboard Hot 100 is based on US streaming (official audio and official video), radio airplay and sales.

For the Aug. 7-dated chart, BTS’ “Butter” garnered 30.5 million radio airplay audience impressions as of July 29, a decrease of 1 percent from last week’s 30.7 million; and 8.1 million US streams, down by eight percent from last week’s 8.8 million US streams. “Butter” sold 112,900, a decrease of two percent from last week’s 115,600.

“Butter” is also No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart for nine weeks. “Permission to Dance,” on the other hand, is No. 9 this week from No. 7 last week on the Hot 100.

Through “Butter” and “Permission to Dance,” BTS have reigned on top of the Hot 100 chart for 10 straight weeks from the June 5-dated chart to Aug. 7.

“HOT 100 brimming with BTS music for 10 straight weeks,” according to a tweet from BTS’ Twitter account about the Hot 100 run.

Last week, when “Butter” came back to No. 1 and replaced “Permission to Dance” on the Hot 100, Billboard said, “BTS is the first act to displace itself at No. 1 with a new leader and then send the previous No. 1 back to the summit with no other acts holding the top spot in between.”
